Shane Hunter is a seasoned professional with nearly two decades of experience in the tree and storm debris management industry. Since founding his own tree service company in 2006, Shane has built a strong reputation specializing in the safe removal of dead, dangerous, and diseased trees, as well as large-scale land clearing projects. His commitment to safety is backed by OSHA 10 and 20 certifications.
In 2008, Shane expanded into the storm recovery sector, where he has since developed extensive expertise in both field operations and high-level project management. In 2017, Shane joined Bergeron Emergency Services and was part of our award-winning response to Hurricane Irma. Over the years, he has successfully scaled storm response capabilities, increasing fleets of bucket trucks and storm equipment to serve major recovery efforts throughout the Southeastern United States including overseeing disaster debris cleanup for the Virginia Department of Transportation following Hurricane Helene in 2024.
- Planning & Coordination
- Review and adjust daily operational plans based on weather, access, and safety.
- Coordinate with FEMA, local government agencies, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Attend and lead daily Incident Command System briefings or coordination meetings.
- Ensure compliance with FEMA Public Assistance (PA) guidelines and local contracts.
- Field Operations Oversight
- Monitor all field crews: cut & toss, haul-out, reduction sites, monitoring teams, and traffic control.
- Perform site visits to staging areas, Temporary Debris Storage and Reduction Sites (TDSRS), and active haul zones.
- Troubleshoot issues like blocked access, equipment failure, or unsafe conditions.
- Data Management & Documentation
- Ensure accurate load ticket collection (paper or electronic – e.g., using ARC-GIS or StormTrack).
- Review and validate monitoring reports, debris quantities, and contractor logs.
- Coordinate with monitoring firms to check for ticket anomalies, route issues, or delays.
- Logistics & Resource Management
- Confirm equipment availability (grapples, haul trucks, loaders, etc.).
- Ensure fuel, safety supplies, and communication tools are available for crews.
- Oversee staff scheduling and crew deployments.
- Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all operations comply with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental regulations.
- Enforce safety protocols: PPE usage, hazard communication, and incident reporting.
- Document and report any injuries or accidents.
- Reporting & Communication
- Compile and submit daily status reports to senior leadership or municipal clients.
- Maintain open communication with Project Managers, Finance/Documentation Teams, and public information officers.
- Respond to community or public inquiries if assigned
