Bergeron Emergency Services (BES) signed a $42 million contract with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to provide disaster recovery services including removing and managing storm debris in multiple counties across the commonwealth following Hurricane Helene.
Hurricane Helene’s most devastating impacts, including catastrophic flooding, were felt in the Appalachian mountain region, particularly in western North Carolina, northeast Tennessee, and southwest Virginia.
Although the storm did not directly hit Virginia, Governor Glenn Youngkin called the hurricane “the most significant disaster in the Commonwealth since 2011.” Southwest Virginia experienced two deaths, heavy rain, flooding, tornados, power outages, washed out roads, and thousands of downed trees.
BES is responsible for large scale debris removal and disposal, tree trimming and removal, land clearing, managing debris management sites (DMS), and more. BES expects to complete work in the first quarter of 2025.
“Our team is eager to get to work and get these people’s lives back to normal as quickly as possible,” said J.R. Bergeron, Founder and CEO of Bergeron Emergency Services. “We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we have the experience, equipment and manpower to get it done efficiently.”
